The Time of Joy is about modern relationships – love relationships, affection between siblings, challenging parenting and friendship. It tells the story of mothers, daughters, brothers, neighbours, acquaintances and strangers whose lives meet each other today.
The mother and adult daughter meet for the first time in a long time and are waiting for the family’s son, Aksle, who will soon join them.
When Aksle finally arrives, he has news. She has decided to leave her entire current life, her partner, her hometown, her parents and sisters. He has decided to disappear. He has packed his things, he will soon drive away.
After Aksle’s departure, the mother goes to meet Aksle’s life partner to better understand her son’s decision. The mother ends up at a party, meets strangers, and the answers she receives surprise everyone in the end.
A Time of Joy is a playful, hopeful and original tableau of life choices and the quest to connect with others, which has gathered full audiences in Norway, Sweden and France.
The music of the performance is composed and performed live by the artist Islaja.
The performance rights are supervised by Agency North.
The Time of Joy is part of the World on Stage project, launched and funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, which supports the translation and performance of stage works in Finnish theatres.
