Minimalistinen valkoinen viivapiirros Kaunottaresta ja hirviöstä (Kaunotar ja hirviö) Kaunotar ja hirviö -elokuvan Bellestä ja hirviöstä mustalla pohjalla.

Siniseen mekkoon pukeutunut nuori tyttö näyttää levottomalta, kun raidalliseen keskiaikaiseen liiviin pukeutunut mies pitelee hänen kasvojaan ja laulaa dramaattisesti lavalla mustaa taustaa vasten.

Teatterikohtaus, jossa keltaiseen liiviin ja ruskeisiin housuihin pukeutunut mies seisoo näyttämön keskellä, ja häntä ympäröi neljä värikkäisiin, liioiteltuihin pukuihin pukeutunutta naista, jotka tekevät ilmeikkäitä ilmeitä. Tausta viittaa maalaismaisemaan.

Lavalla esiintyy kolme näyttelijää koristeellisissa, värikkäissä puvuissa. Keskushahmolla on hienostunut röyhelökaulus ja laatikonmuotoinen mekko, ja häntä reunustavat animoituihin kotitalousesineisiin pukeutuneet hahmot. Taustalla on suurenmoinen, ylellinen kirjasto.

Kaksi naista, joilla on taidokkaat, omituiset puvut, seisovat pimeällä teatterilavalla lattialla istuvan, surullisen näköisen punatukkaisen, sinipukuisen nuoren tytön molemmin puolin.

He poseeraavat yhdessä tummaa taustaa vasten, mikä tuo mieleen teatraalisen satuympäristön.

How to tame a monsterI have to admit that the City Theatre’s novelty, the Disney musical Beauty and the Beast , is almost everything you would want from a good musical: It has visual magnificence, compelling dances, direct and hidden humour, a theme that emphasizes tolerance and tolerance of differences, and a few riddles as an added spice. In addition, it is suitable for both children and adults. Beauty and the Beast is an old fairy tale in which a father sheds his own skin to save his daughter from the monster’s castle, but with her love, the girl manages to tame the beast and the magic to fade. The fairy tale has been interpreted as a story about a young woman’s awakening of sexuality, in which case the opposite sex may initially feel like a “monster” in its strangeness. The Disney version, which is also familiar from the animated film, emphasizes the role of daughter Bella. She is a young woman who is fascinated by books and longs for adventures in the world. In the eyes of the villagers, he is as much of a freak as his inventor father. There is plenty to mock in both. But when her father is trapped in the monster’s castle, Bella takes the reins without hesitation and grows up.Bella’s character has modern strength and courage, and she does not bend to the boasting of the narcissistic Gaston, who woos the girl. A young woman is a subject, not dependent on other decisions. In the castle, the Beast is revealed to be a stubborn man for whom forgiveness and thanks are foreign words. Bella becomes his trainer. Time flies, and magic threatens to become permanent: Enchanted people are forever becoming objects and furniture. Beauty and the Beast also contains a strong charge in terms of tolerance for differences. It’s startling to see how quickly the villagers go from being a taunt to worshipping a strong leader and finally shouting without hesitation as they embark on a monster hunt: Kill, kill! Marika Westerling Bellana is cute, like steel in a silk glove. At the premiere, Kari Arffman ran riot as the monster. In the end, his character was quite soft despite the great roar. Mikko Vihma boasted handsomely as Gaston. At the castle, Risto Kaskilahti as a candelabra and Eero Saarinen as a bell unleashed many laughs. The other inhabitants of the enchanted castle were also very happy. Sari Salmela’s magnificent costumes and Katariina Kirjavainen’s set design played a major role in the creation of the fairy tale’s enchantment.

A MUSICAL SPECTACLE SUCKS YOU INTO ANOTHER WORLDAs soon as the intermission began, a little boy asked in the foyer: “When will I be able to watch again?” The enthusiasm says something about the attractiveness of Beauty and the Beast . The whole story and its presentation are so skilfully tuned that it keeps both children and adults in its grip. The story of a beautiful girl and a prince who has been bewitched into a monster is suitable for children, but like many fairy tales, it also fascinates adults. Who doesn’t sometimes identify with the monster in this fairy tale, whose rough exterior hides a handsome prince? And the most fascinating thing is that that inner beauty can only be revealed if someone falls in love with the monster without caring about its appearance. No wonder that the story, which has lived for hundreds of years, got musical producers interested. However, the fairy tale only ended up on the stage through a twist, as the musical version is based on Disney’s popular animated film. Fantasy and magic In animation, everything is possible and transforming it for the stage has been challenging. Fantasy and magic are needed on stage, as even the servants of the enchanted castle have turned into objects. In the end, the illusion works so well for the live actors that the candelabra and the clock almost steal the performance. Especially Risto Kaskilahti , who speaks French, is phenomenal in his role. The stage is moved with precision and the rhythm works especially in the musical numbers. Not all actors are of the same quality as singers, if you want to look for something to improve in a performance that is almost perfect in its genre. However, the main roles played by Marika Westerling, Sören Lillkung and Mikko Vihma will feature proper musical singing. The Helsinki City Theatre’s musicals have not disappointed us before, but now they have risen to a new level. An exciting, moving and even funny story, spectacular costumes and glorious sets, fast-paced dancing and versatile music – I don’t remember ever seeing such a musical spectacle in Finnish theatre. The transformations of people and other magic tricks have been carried out particularly impressively, with the help of magician Tatu Tyni in design. Of course, in such an international entertainment product, events and emotions are calculated, but when everything is done with Disney’s experience and skill, the viewer is forced to surrender to entertainment and throw themselves into a completely different world for three hours.

A TEARFULLY ADORABLE BEAUTY AND A MONSTERThere’s nothing you can do about it, but Helsinki City Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast musical makes you chew your cheeks so that tears don’t flow in droves. The old story of the enchanted prince has been repeated so many times that you would think the story had already become wooden, but it wasn’t. The charm of the stage sucks you in without resistance, and the chattering teacup, the French-style candle and the tight-lipped closet clock don’t feel strange at all.The stage adaptation of the Disney film is so professionally executed that you can’t really turn your nose at anything. Liisa Ryömä’s Finnish translation is mischievously fresh, Katariina Kirjavainen’s set design is fairytale-like and Sari Salmela’s costumes are respectably insightful, right down to the dancing dinner dishes.Director Hans Berndtsson is working on the same musical for the second time, and the end result is carefully thought-out, finely tinted theatre down to the smallest detail.Musical skills have been checked, there are no weak links. The dancers are the villagers, the monsters lurking in the forest, and finally the dizzying tableware that serves Beauty dinner in the monster’s castle.Of course, it’s all calculated American dreams and fairy tales’ escape from reality, but it works.

PURE ENTERTAINMENT WITH A GOLDEN EDGEPori Jazz director Jyrki Kangas‘ standard answer to the question of why the big names on the Skrivarholm stage so rarely had anything to do with jazz was that he used them to pay for the less crowd-pleasing jazz part of the program. This is apparently also the reasoning of our theatre managers. Traditional spoken theatre rarely or never draws a full house, which musicals often or always do. In other words, Asko Sarkola is “forced” to put on one musical a year on the main stage in order to be able to do serious drama on the other stages. This is not to say that the musical as a genre cannot also be “serious”. It’s all about how it’s done. The great musicals of history are great art as well as, for example, opera or classical drama, but have all too often suffered from half-realized performances, where neither text nor music has come into its own.

The glorious Disney musical does not disappoint expectationsBased on a Disney animation, Beauty and the Beast is everything you could ever want from a fairytale musical for the whole family: a visually lush and imaginative, endearingly educational story with just the right amount of suspense, skilled actors, singers and dancers, a linguistically rich, multi-layered and funny text (thanks to the Finnish translator Liisa Ryömä) and captivating music: the magic and magic of a fairy tale.It is easy to believe that the musical is one of the most expensive productions at the Helsinki City Theatre. Everything shows that nothing has been left to chance and of course the Disney company’s demands have been such that no poor man’s version could be out of the question. The performance closely follows the structure and spirit of the Disney animation made in 1991, so there will be no unpleasant surprises even for child viewers who know the story well. There may be many opinions about whether it makes sense to copy the film so accurately to the stage, but at least 33,000 people who have already bought tickets think so. About 70 per cent of the musical’s tickets have been sold in advance.Discussing whose money has been used to make a great performance is another thing, but theatre is always theatre and enchants its viewers in a completely different way than film. That is what the creators rely on, and not in vain. The musical Beauty and the Beast grabs the adult viewer beyond everyday reality for a moment, and the performance of just under three hours feels much shorter. Entertainment at its best.

COMEDY FLOURISHES IN THE MAGICAL WORLDWhen Disney released the animated adventure Beauty and the Beast of the 90s I was in elementary school myself. The fairy tale hit like carbon monoxide. After the visit to the cinema, we got the story home for a video, which I looked through it so many times that I could recite almost all the lines and sing the songs along with the story. I even remember swinging in elementary school during recess and sang loudly with my friends Beauty Belle’s songs.15 years later, Beauty and the Beast became Finland’s first Disney musical made for the theatre stage. Helsinki City Theatre Sitting at the premiere, I still find myself remembering almost everything dialogues and songs by heart. It’s fun to see how closely the lines of the performance follow the formula of the original animation. However, even if you feel like singing it is better to leave it to the one who knows it better.Marika Westerling, who plays the role of Belle, is really good at singing. Westerling, who also played as a backing vocalist for Elton John’s summer tour, is has studied musical theatre at the Royal Theatre of London Music Academy. Belle as well as the monster with Sören Lillkung The songs of Kari Arffman take turns smoothly moving the story forward in an almost completely composed musical. However, the best part of the performance is the work of Risto Kaskilahti and Eero Saarinen performed by the humorous duo Lumiére and the bell Cogsworth. The public does not You can’t help but burst out laughing when you twist with a French accent Kaskilahti throws out a few sips in his candle costume. Without this comical duo and the banter between them The story of Beauty and the Beast would be missing something essential. Humour is the one that appeals to both the younger and older viewers of the family.

DISNEY MAGIC TO THE STOMACHHelsinki City Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast is a captivating spectacleJust a year ago, hardly anyone would have thought of comparing any theatre monster mask on Lordi. Now the analogy cannot be avoided. This time, however, it is not Tomi Putaansuu who is behind the mask, but actor Kari Arffman. And this is not Hard Rock Hallelujah but Beauty and the Monster, Finland’s first Disney musical, which was released on Thursday premiere on the big stage of the Helsinki City Theatre. No matter what you think of the entertainment giant Disney, now it is There is such a spectacle that the chatter is gone. Beauty and the Beast is wonderfully executed theatre of great emotions that takes the audience away with them.

Kaksi kertaa olen nähnyt esityksen. Tuntui kuin olisi aivan jossain muualla kuin Suomessa tavallisena arki-iltana, leijailin jossain siellä sadun ja toden rajamailla, pääsin unohtamaan hetkeksi kaiken muun. Bellen ääni mahtava ja Kaskilahti Lumierenä loistava! We want more! :)

aivan ihana!!! paras musikaali jossa olen käynyt!!!

Mahtavaa!
