It is 1944. In the market town of Rovaniemi, twin sisters Lempi and Sisko are coming of age amid the attention of German soldiers. Having found love among the soldiers, Sisko challenges her sister to a bet that leads Lempi to fall in love with the young Viljami and become pregnant. War breaks out, and Lempi remains in a remote Lapland village with the maid Elli. When Viljami returns home from the front, Lempi has vanished. No one knows where she has gone or why.

Lempi, voiced by Krista Kosonen, never appears on stage. Instead, her life story unfolds through the accounts of Viljami, Elli and Lempi’s twin sister Sisko. Who was Lempi really? What happened to her?

Can we ever truly see another person in their entirety?

Lempi is an intensely atmospheric drama about passion, chance and the power of love. The production is directed by Miika Muranen, whose previous production, Agatha Christie’s Hiirenloukkua, played to packed houses at the Arena Stage and the Main Stage in 2023–2024.

“Lempi is not a depiction of war. It is a story about people in extreme circumstances, caught up in love and passion,” says Muranen. Both as a director and an actor, he loves seeing powerful emotions on stage – and this production promises plenty of them.
