Choreographer Eeva Juutinen’s OlO is a stage work that perceives the rhythms of being. It is based on Juutinen’s one-and-a-half-year drying process of plants and flowers, which inspired her to explore the liveliness and mortality of the body. In the work, poetry acts as a connection between the illusion present in the theatre and the body and the everyday.
olO plays with the relationships between large and small stage gestures and tensions, which can be approached as poetry, dance and bodily experience. In the performance, dancers Terhi Hartikainen and Maria Mäkelä move in the terrain of intensity and intimacy. olO wants to create space for the viewer’s associations, experiences and reflections, inviting them to define and name themselves in different ways.
Eeva Juutinen is a choreographer and performer who has studied choreography and dance at the Trinity Laba and The Place schools in London, the P.A.R.T.S. Research Studios programme in Brussels and the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki in Helsinki. In addition to movement practices, Juutinen’s choreographic tools include writing and breathing. Her interests include difference, intimacy, affect and intensity, as well as the relationships between the body and the environment. olO is Eeva Juutinen’s artistic thesis for the Master’s Programme in Choreography at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, which premiered in August 2021.
