The Longest Journey is a solo performance and a poetic journey towards self-discovery. Performance artist Ignacio Pérez Pérez has taken a postcard of a waterfall from his father as the starting point for his work. In the performance, the card serves as a gateway that leads to an intimate and ritualistic journey – moments of transition, migration, transmigration of the soul, crossing borders and discovering new inner worlds.
The performance, which combines installation, painting, photography and performance, takes place in the lobby of Studio Pasila and on the street in front of it. The title of the performance is inspired by Moshe Benarroch’s poem: “The longest journey / is to arrive / where you are”.
Ignacio Pérez Pérez is a Venezuelan, nomadic visual artist living in Finland. He explores life as arriving where we already are. Through secular contemplation, Pérez Pérez examines the experience of otherness and separation as an everyday state of change. His work is playful in a ritualistic way; In her work, she combines performance, street photography, walking art and social interaction.
The Stage of Contemporary Performance pilot project, which will be seen at Studio Pasila in 2022 and 2023, will bring different forms of contemporary performance into the Helsinki City Theatre’s repertoire. The activities of the stage of a contemporary performance are divided into a visiting stage and premieres and stage residencies aimed at preparing them.
