Vaarallisia suhteita
A wild tangle of intrigueHuom! Poistunut ohjelmistosta!
The theatre’s activities are sponsored by the church, so the programme must be biblical. Director Raili Wahlman definitely wants the house’s own actor Rauno de Tourvell to play the main role of Satan in her play based on the Old Testament. A tangle of intrigue and playing with emotions begins, in which Wahlman must seduce de Tourvell into the role, using all the rules of art and sexuality. At the point when real, genuine love intervenes, things get completely out of hand. Dangerous Relationships is a wildly imaginative update of a well-known classic and Leea Klemola’s first play at the City Theatre.
In Leea Klemola and Rosa-Maria Perä’s adaptation of the original play, the twists and turns of the play, the goals of the characters and the relationships between them remain – which are still life-threatening. This time, the plotters are the women, who are run by the men. Klemola’s language is recognizable and sometimes even violent.
Dangerous Relationships deals with the use of power and playing with love, where broken hearts are at stake. Theatre director Mertanen and director Raili Wahlman are merciless and cruel in their playing, but “they can’t do anything about it”. Despite its tragicness, the play has many comedic features.
“Above all, this is an ugly beautiful, rough love drama that settles into the Finnish mindscape,” says the play’s director Anna-Elina Lyytikäinen.
In Lyytikäinen’s opinion, the fun comes not only from Klemola’s own language, but also from the fact that the characters are shown with their mistakes and their days. The recognizability of people makes me laugh in the play. “This goes to the core of basic humanity. You can definitely recognize it even if you don’t want to see yourself in the people,” Lyytikäinen says.
