Vihreä iho, kirkkaanpunaiset huulet ja suorat mustat hiukset omaavalla henkilöllä on korkea musta noitahattu ja tummat vaatteet vihreää, savuista taustaa vasten.

Kaksi näyttelijää lavalla, toinen pukeutunut kirkkaan keltaiseen mekkoon, joka ulottuu ylöspäin, ja toinen mustaan, vihreällä kasvomaalilla, matkalaukku kädessään. Dramaattinen valaistus ja sumu luovat maagisen tunnelman.

Lavalla esiintyy kaksi teatteripukuista naista; toisella on keltainen mekko ja vaalea peruukki, toisella musta mekko, hattu ja vihreä meikki, ja hänellä on matkalaukku kädessään. Vihreisiin pukuihin pukeutuneet tanssijat poseeraavat taustalla vihreässä valaistuksessa.

Noitapukuinen henkilö luudan kanssa seisoo lavalla, jossa on kolme esiintyjää vartalopuvuissa suurten läpinäkyvien pallojen sisällä, vihreän valon ja sumun ympäröimänä.

Näyttämökohtauksessa noitapukuinen vihreäihoinen henkilö luudan kanssa kohtaa ruskeapukuisen miehen suuren, valaistun silmämunan vieressä dramaattisessa valaistuksessa.

Mustaan noitapukuun pukeutunut nainen, jolla on vihreä kasvomaali, elehtii dramaattisesti raidallisiin housuihin ja harmaaseen paitaan pukeutuneen miehen vieressä, joka seisoo lavalla suuren valaistun silmätaustan edessä.

Toinen esiintyjä, jolla on tatuointi käsivarressa, syleilee dramaattisesti takaapäin vihreällä kasvomaalilla varustettua esiintyjää mustassa mekossa, ja molemmat polvistuvat näyttämöllä teatterivalaistuksen alla.

Mustaan toppiin ja punaiseen liiviin pukeutunut mies koskettaa hitaasti mustaan mekkoon pukeutuneen, luuta ja hattua kädessään pitävän vihreänahkaisen naisen kasvoja hämärästi valaistulla näyttämöllä.

Teatterin näyttämöllä on dramaattinen valaistus, näyttelijät taidokkaissa puvuissa, kaksi suurta häkkimäistä rakennelmaa ja vihreän sävyinen tunnelma, joka viittaa fantasiaan tai maagiseen teemaan. Esiintyjät tanssivat ja ovat tarmokkaasti vuorovaikutuksessa.

Kaksi näyttelijää lavalla: toinen noitapuvussa, jossa on vihreä kasvomaali ja musta hattu, ja toinen valkoisessa puvussa ja kimaltelevassa kruunussa, joka nostaa dramaattisesti kätensä. Tausta on tumma ja siinä on abstrakteja kuvioita.

Värikkäisiin pukuihin pukeutuneet näyttelijät esiintyvät energisesti lavalla, ja ryhmää johtavat vaalea nainen ja valkoisiin pukeutunut mies. Tummiin asuihin pukeutuneet tanssijat kantavat matkalaukkuja. Lavastuksessa on dramaattinen valaistus ja suuret, abstraktit rekvisiitat.

Kaksi näyttelijää esiintyy lavalla. Toisella on vuohipuku, jossa on sarvet ja parta, kun taas toinen, tummiin vaatteisiin pukeutunut, vihreänahkainen näyttelijä kurottautuu heitä kohti. Kohtaus viittaa näytelmän tai musikaalin dramaattiseen hetkeen.

The Evil Witch of the West Theatre Helsinki City Theatre’s new musical Wicked takes the audience to a dazzling magical world where anything is possible. The technique and teamwork are so great and effortless that only your imagination seems to be the limit to what you see on stage: riding a bubble, melting into the water, growing wings on your back. To begin with. The show starts from a witch school that is reminiscent of Harry Potter and Hogwarts. Although the musical Wicked premiered in New York City in 2003, the story is much older. It is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire , which is a continuation of L. Frank Baum’s novel The Wizard of Oz from 1900. It was written as a musical by Winnie Holzmann, and the composition and lyrics are by Stephen Schwartz . The musical stars two women, Maria Ylipää as the outcast, green witch girl, Elfaba, and Anna-Maija Tuokko as Galinda, the most beautiful girl in school, “bimbo blonde”. They know how to sing and much more: fill the stage with energy and their lively presence. What is this musical all about? Director Hans Berndtsson summed it up in one word at the theatre’s autumn info: tolerance. “There are many of us who are not like the others. In our increasingly globalized world, tolerance becomes a matter of survival.” Wicked explores his subject on many levels. In the school world, it is a question of how a girl born green will cope with the crowd when everyone, including the teachers, shy away from her. Elfaba and Galinda become roommates. Mutual disgust gradually grows into a strong friendship. This, in turn, is put to the test when the friends fall in love with the same boy, the “genuinely self-centered and deeply superficial” Fiero (Tuukka Leppänen). Her schoolmates notice that Elfaba, who is considered a loser, is the one who has the courage to defend those who are weaker. There is only one talking animal teacher at the school, the esteemed Dr. Dillamond. He is suspended from office. The disappearance of animals from the teaching staff and their submission to cages is a symptom of a great change. To rescue the animals, Elfaba must travel to the Wizard of Oz. On that journey, the righteous fighter becomes the evil witch of the West. The musical is bursting with themes that start to get a little out of hand towards the end: friendship, tolerance of differences, growing as a person, longing for love and love, subjugation and freedom even at the level of society. The pop-tuned, swinging music even carries the question of whether a person is born evil or whether evil is instilled in them. Still, the performance is relaxed and loose and elicits many laughs from the audience. Especially Anna-Maija Tuokko, but many other actors also show the comedian’s abilities. The triumph of the musical Wicked on the world’s stages continues. The Helsinki version is the first so far in which the set designer, Mikael Varhelyi, and the costume designer, Elina Kolehmainen, have been given free rein, with great results.

Wicked offers magic from a full stage The Helsinki City Theatre started its season with a musical again, as it has done in so many years before. This autumn, the stage will be taken over by the citizens of the Land of Oz, who weave their Wicked story into the plot of The Wizard of Oz. The background group is well-known and award-winning, and the result is accordingly. The stage will be filled with skilled and enthusiastic young people with the right stage radiance. But what else does the musical offer other than technical expertise, and what age is it aimed at? Despite its fairytale nature, the plot is not the easiest – at least not if you are not familiar with The Wizard of Oz. The manual helps with this problem, as it offers a very detailed synopsis. The language is so difficult that it does not open up to the youngest. Of course, the axis of scariness also drops the little ones. The genre of music may not appeal to those who are purely rock-oriented, and even the classical singing style may drop some off. However, in its spectacle, the musical offers experiences from the stage full and the themes of the story have a lot to pick up in today’s world. The evil witch of the West is juxtaposed with the good, but the nature of good and evil is opened up more deeply and the unambiguity of the words is broken. So there are many things to do.

Wicked reflects on difference and the origin of evil Musicals are spectacular, entertaining – and often quite trivial. Helsinki City Theatre’s Wicked is from another world. At the premiere, the audience gave a standing ovation. The story is connected to the United States’ own fairy tale mythology, the Land of Oz. It originated in 1900 in L. Frank Baum’s book The Wizard of Oz (also translated as The Land of Oz and The Magician of the Land of Oz). The book grew into a 15-volume series of Oz books. The 1939 film musical The Wizard of Oz, directed by Victor Fleming, widely spread the Wizard of Oz to the consciousness of generations of Americans.

Helsinki City Theatre’s Polar CircleThe musical WICKED is an experience like no otherWe have been waiting for this all summer. The premiere of the musical Wicked at the end of August. And the wait was indeed rewarded. An absolutely great experience. Magic, magic, witchcraft, enchantment, the brilliance of colors, great singing, excellent music, breathtaking acrobatics in a delightful story.Director Hans Berndtsson now has his third work on stage at the Helsinki City Theatre. Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast preceded this musical, and they were known to be liked by the audience. No wonder, then, that expectations are high for the musical Wicked. Already from the first steps, from the first tunes, you can sense that something great is coming.Wicked, which has gained popularity as a cult musical around the world, tells a story of soul mate, difference and even a little bit of magic with amazing music. It’s probably the best musical story of all time! The story and the music are captivating! On stage, there will be a fast-paced performance that will not leave anyone cold.Maija Ylipää and Anna-Maija Tuokko – Elphaba and Galinda are magically wonderful young women whose singing touches you and makes you forget the place completely. The show is built around these gorgeous women, and since the rest of the team is also competent, you can’t do anything else during the show but enjoy yourself. Musicals like Wicked are not seen every autumn, so I warmly recommend this musical to anyone who wants to feel the magic and enjoy versatile music. A bus full of Kirkkonummi residents saw this performance at the pre-premiere.

WICKED TAKES YOU AWAY One of the most expensive productions becomes a huge success Helsinki City Theatre has been investing in musical theatre for a long time. Right after the first night, I dare to name the musical Wicked as a great success. It is the most expensive, or at least one of the most expensive, of HKT’s productions in recent years. HKT boldly included Wicked in its repertoire as only the third theatre in Europe. Before that, it has only been seen in London and Stuttgart. It premiered at Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre in October 2003. However, before that, in the spring of 2003, a kind of test drive of Wicked was made at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. The first reception in the media was mixed, but the musical was immediately warmly received by the audience. This was also the case after the premiere in Helsinki. And not without reason.
