Culture Kids
Helsinki City Theatre is one of the partners in the Culture Kids programme and one of the theatre sponsors for Helsinki children born in 2021. Each year, the sponsor theatres offer two events that the children can attend with their families.
The events offered by the theatres may be performances or atmospheric, unhurried arts sessions for children and the adults close to them. The events are designed with the children’s age in mind and are suitable for all families.
In autumn 2026, the children will get to see the musical fairy tale Pekka ja susi on the Main Stage. The production is created in collaboration with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

Helsinki City Theatre launched its Culture Kids programme in autumn 2021 with the baby theatre production Mukavaa matkaa!.
In autumn 2022, Helsinki City Theatre invited the children to peek behind the scenes of the theatre building at the
Taaperot teatterissa events.
In autumn 2023, the children attended the Porkkana karkuteillä theatre concert on the Main Stage, where our theatre team joined forces with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

In the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the children enjoyed a performance of Mollin iltahepuli in the Small Stage foyer.

Every Helsinki child born in 2020 or later is paired with a cultural organisation that gives the child and their family a personal introduction to the arts. The programme continues until the child starts school. Each child’s cultural sponsor is determined by their year of birth. The sponsor theatres for children born in 2021 are Helsinki City Theatre, Finnish National Theatre, Svenska Teatern, Teatteri ILMI Ö., Q-teatteri and Nukketeatteri Sampo. Theatre events are free of charge and are held both at the theatres and at various locations around Helsinki.
The aim of the Culture Kids programme is to promote the wellbeing and equality of Helsinki families and support children’s growth and development through art and culture. The programme makes it easy for families to see, hear and experience their home city and discover its cultural venues.
The Culture Kids programme is administered by the City of Helsinki’s Culture and Leisure Division. The programme is made possible by a grant from the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
Children receive an invitation to become a Culture Kid from their child health clinic.
