Helsinki City Theatre wants to create impactful and memorable experiences in a way that respects the boundaries of our planet. Our climate roadmap for 2026–2030 summarises how we can reduce the emissions generated by our operations and develop the theatre’s everyday life towards more sustainable solutions.
The climate roadmap is based on an annual carbon footprint calculation as well as the international Green Paper of the Theatre and the EcoCompass environmental management system. It covers all of our operations: theatre buildings, productions and everyday activities, as well as the emissions generated in our value chain from procurement and mobility, for example.
In our climate work, we focus on three areas in accordance with the Theatre’s Green Paper :
- Sustainable buildings with a focus on energy efficiency, emission-free electricity and the long-term development of properties
- Sustainable productions where we promote the circular economy, reuse of materials and responsible sourcing
- Sustainable operations where everyday choices, mobility, services and cooperation networks play a key role
Our goal is to systematically reduce our emissions and move as close to net zero emissions as possible. For us, sustainability is not the opposite of creativity, but its source: we believe that even greater experiences can be created with an even smaller carbon footprint.
Climate work is continuous development and shared learning. This requires cooperation with staff, audiences, partners and the entire cultural field. We share the climate roadmap openly and invite everyone to join us in building a more sustainable future for the performing arts.
