We are committed to the Green Paper on Theatre, which is a model developed in the UK to guide more sustainable theatre operations. In all our new productions starting in 2025, we aim for the basic level of the Green Paper. The basic level is our first milestone on the way to carbon-neutral and sustainable theatre operations.
Baseline objectives of the Green Paper
At least 50% of the materials used in production are reused or made from recycled materials. This applies to the sets, props and costumes.
After the performance, at least 65% of the materials are reused or recycled.
We avoid harmful materials that burden the environment.
We use technical systems sustainably.
We reduce unnecessary trips and transports.
The Theatre Green Book is a common model for all theatres for more sustainable operations, and it provides a common framework for how sustainable theatre is made and concrete ways to take the environment and society into account in the theatre’s everyday life. Together with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet and STEFI, HKT has been the initiator of bringing the Theatre’s Green Paper to Finland and translating it into Finnish.
