2:22 A Ghost Story brings the classic thriller genre to a modern setting
The award-winning 2:22 A Ghost Story, written by British director Danny Robins , will premiere on the Arena stage on 8 February. The intense thriller premiered in London in 2021 and has already been called a modern classic. The play is directed by Paavo Westerberg and the main roles are played by Pia Andersson, Sanna-June Hyde, Sauli Suonpää and Lauri Tilkanen, who is acting on the HKT stage for the first time.
Jenny (Pia Andersson) and Sam (Lauri Tilkanen) have moved with their baby into a Victorian terraced house, where strange things start to happen. When Sami is on business trips, Jenny hears voices through the baby monitor at 2:22 a.m. He believes the house is haunted, but Sam finds a rational reason for everything. They invite a couple of friends to dinner and together they plan to stay awake and see what happens when the clock strikes 2:22. Is it a haunting or a fantasy?
“Robins’ play is about the people of our time. The story is relatable and the focus is on interesting people. It is a drama in the thriller genre that is rarely seen in the theatre sector, and it raises interesting questions related to our own beliefs and supernatural experiences. This play offers the actors delicious roles and the audience an exciting theatrical experience with surprising twists, to say the least,” says director Paavo Westerberg .
2:22 A Ghost Story stars Pia Andersson, Sanna-June Hyde, Sauli Suonpää and Lauri Tilkanen. The other roles are played by Leena Rapola and Matti Rasila.
The play is directed by Paavo Westerberg. The set design was designed by Antti Mattila, the costumes by Laura Dammert and the camouflage by Maija Sillanpää. The lighting design is by Petteri Heiskanen, and the composition and sound design are by Aleksi Saura . The play has been translated into Finnish by Anni Ihlberg and the dramaturg of the work is Henna Piirto.
