A magically beautiful contemporary circus performance for imaginers of all ages and languages

Parrakas mies teerinväriseen takkiin pukeutuneena ojentaa kätensä, josta avautuu maaginen maisema: pilviä, punainen raketti, kuu ja lapsen siluetti, joka seisoo pilven päällä kädet kohotettuna ja näyttää oudolta ja unenomaiselta.

Naïve Man Company’s stunning contemporary circus performance for the whole family, Prospero , will have its Finnish premiere on 16 May at the Helsinki City Theatre’s studio Pasila. The work, which combines circus, dance, slapstick comedy and lyrical beautiful moments, is directed by one of the top names in European contemporary circus, circus director Maksim Komaro.

Dramatised by award-winning Norwegian dramaturg and director Sverre Waage , the wordless performance is based on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest and focuses on the relationship between father and daughter, Prospero and Miranda. Like The Tempest, Prospero also has a lot of magic, performed by means of contemporary circus. The objects really come to life, and the stage is filled with tangible magic.

Czech actor Jiri Kohout will play Prospero and Finnish circus artist Milla Lahtinen will play Miranda. Prospero’s music is by Italian-Norwegian musician and composer Per Zanussi. The costumes are designed by award-winning Czech costume designer Kristina Nováková Záveská. The lighting design is by Juho Rahijärvi and the sound design by Juuso Hannukainen.

Prospero is the first production of the international circus theatre group Naïve Man Company, founded in 2016. The work had its world premiere on 7 April 2007 at the Jätkä78 theatre in Prague. The magically beautiful, wordless performance is suitable for everyone over the age of 5, regardless of their home language.
