The artists of the Helsinki City Theatre will take the audience on a unique concert journey into the world of musicals on 24 November on the big stage. The concert, which is planned in connection with the singing lessons of the artistic staff, also offers the audience the opportunity to get acquainted with musical tunes that are rarely heard in Finland.

The Songs from Broadway and West End concert, organised by the charming artists and other staff of the Helsinki City Theatre, consists of both familiar and lesser-known film and musical tunes. The album includes music from musicals such as Finding Neverland (2014), The Greatest Showman (2017), Bridges of Madison County (2014), Next to Normal (2008) and Nine (1982).

Actors Emilia Nyman and Antti Timonen, familiar from HKT’s musicals, will host the concert and lead the audience into the world of songs heard in the original language in English.

“The concert will feature performances by the house’s artistic staff, both from the musical and drama sides, who have studied the Estill Voice Training technique for the past six years under the guidance of British teachers Tim Richards and Ian Nicholas . These brilliant teachers of ours have compiled the material for the concert and made the song choices according to each of our personalities and personal challenges. Our diverse team is united by this stage and the courage and desire to tell stories,” says actress Emilia Nyman.

The Songs from Broadway and West End concert, which will be performed only once, is organised by the actors, dancers and technical staff of the Helsinki City Theatre.

“Together with the associations, we decided that we would organise a concert day like this together, which would start with the artists of the house welcoming us in the cloakroom, and after the concert we would stay in the foyer with the audience for a drink,” says actress Ursula Salo, one of the driving forces behind the concert event.

In addition to the concert, the Songs from Broadway and West End event includes an After Club in the balcony foyer, where the audience is welcome to stay for a drink, listen to songs and meet the artists of the house.

The concert and After Club will feature Laura Alajääski, Kari Arffman, Sari Haapamäki, Sofia Hilli, Kirsi Karlenius, Tuukka Leppänen, Kai Lähdesmäki, Martti Manninen, Vappu Nalbantoglu, Emilia Nyman, Sonja Pajunoja, Tiina Peltonen, Leena Rapola, Ursula Salo, Aino Seppo, Inka Tiitinen, Antti Timonen, Kaisa Torkkel, Leenamari Unho and Mikko Vihma.

The orchestra consists of Marko Hilpo (conductor, arrangement, piano), Eeva Koivusalo (bass) and Anssi Sopanen (drums).

The concert starts at 16:00 and lasts about two hours, including an intermission. After the After Club performance until about 7.15 p.m. in the foyer of the main stage.
