Amazing acting by young people and veterans at Studio Pasila’s Scapegoat

Kahdeksan ihmistä seisoo rivissä beigeä seinää vasten. Useimmilla on valkoiset paidat, ja heidän ilmeensä vaihtelevat hämmennyksestä yllätykseen, ja yksi nainen edessä elehtii painokkaasti ja hymyilee leveästi.

Helsinki City Theatre’s Studio Pasila’s autumn will open with AgapetusThe Scapegoat (1930), produced in collaboration with the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, on 18 September. In the play directed by Pentti Kotkaniemi, you can enjoy exceptionally flexible acting, as all roles, regardless of age and gender, are only drawn in front of the audience – and even three times during the performance.

Amazing acting in Scapegoat is offered by young theatre school students Alex Anton, Joel Hirvonen, Emil Kihlström, Katriina Sinisalo, Asta Sveholm and Nenna Tyni together with the City Theatre’s experienced veterans Santeri Kinnunen and Jouko Klemettilä .

“Here the actor gets to play, because there is nothing definitively finished, no two performances are the same in this project. Every performance will be a fight for survival. The more boldly you jump in, the better,” says director Pentti Kotkaniemi, whose Stones in the Pocket, which is also based on virtuoso acting, continues its 16th sold-out year in the repertoire of the same Pasila stage.

The Scapegoat, which has also been filmed as a film and is set in a department store environment, is a perfect fit for the project.

“It’s a traditional Finnish comedy with a romantic theme, not too many characters and equal roles. The lot may hit the dignified 62-year-old manager of the department store just as well as the 17-year-old saleswoman, and a genuine and overwhelming love scene must be built between them, regardless of the roles, regardless of the look, size or age of the actors, women or men. It can also make the viewer a little breathless and hopefully also rejoice!”, says Pentti Kotkaniemi.

The set and costumes of the scapegoat were designed by Vilma Mattila. The lighting design is by Markus Schaffter and the sound design by Ari-Pekka Saarikko.

Premiere of The Scapegoat 18.9.2018 at 7 p.m. at the Helsinki City Theatre’s studio in Pasila (Ratamestarinkatu 5)
