Helsinki City Theatre cancels its performance activities until 31.12.2020. The reason for the cancellations is the changes caused by the restrictions on public events that will continue until 18 December and the uncertainty related to the development of the epidemic situation. The co-operation negotiations concerning the theatre’s entire staff, which started on 25 November, will continue this week.
“Our goal was to conclude the negotiations during the last week. However, we ended up taking a time-out after the closure was extended until 18.12. We have to postpone the premiere of Tatu and Patu in Helsinki to January and replan the spring performance calendar and working hours again. There are a lot of things to investigate and we want to make well-founded decisions,” says Theatre Director Kari Arffman.
“The negotiations with the employee representatives have been conducted in a very good spirit, and I believe that we will find a solution that satisfies all parties during this week. Compared to a normal year, our ticket revenue has dropped by 70 per cent, so we all understand that measures must be taken to balance the economy,” Arffman continues.
Due to the uncertainty related to the worsening epidemic situation and the need to change the theatre’s performance and working hours, the theatre will also cancel its performance activities for the rest of 2020.
The theatre will contact the customers of the cancelled performances and refund the tickets to the customers.
The Helsinki City Theatre’s website will be updated with information on the effects of the coronavirus on the building’s operations.
