Helsinki City Theatre wants to secure its upcoming premieres and postpone the start of the spring season to March. Performances are cancelled for February, but a staggering cluster of five premieres is expected in March.

The City Theatre’s spring season premiere streak begins with a joint evening of three dance performances Three Works from Contact at Studio Pasila on 2 March. During the evening, dancers from Helsinki Dance Company will perform works by choreographer Mirva Mäkinen and Sari Palmgren and in collaboration with Cirko – Centre for New Circus a duet between Riia Kivimäki and Saku Mäkelä.

The premieres originally planned for January-February, the popular musical Once in Finnish, the British comedy hit Drama That Goes Wrong, the Finnish play novelty Mikko Räsänen’s Future and the ageless love story Silent Bridges will also premiere in March. New premiere dates will be confirmed later this week.

The spring programme continues with the musical As in Heaven, Bolla directed by Milja Sarkola, and Studio Pasila’s all-time favourites Stones in Your Pocket and the stand-up club Club act!one.

“The prolonged epidemic situation has severely weakened the City Theatre’s finances. In order to secure future premieres and the theatre’s operations in the future, we have to cancel our performance activities until 28.2.2022,” says Theatre Director Kari Arffman.

The cancellation of performances will also cause changes to the performance calendar for the end of the spring. The premiere of the Moomin play Kris och katastrof i Moominvalley for adults will be postponed to autumn 2022. The performances of the musical play Tatu and Patu in Helsinki will also be postponed to the autumn. The spring performances of the dance performance Gravity have to be cancelled.

The theatre will contact customers who have booked and purchased tickets regarding cancellations and changes.
