Jukka Lindström’s Interjection asks whether Finnish politics is broken
From 3 November, Jukka Lindström , known from the TV show Noin viikkouutiset, will visit the Arena stage of the Helsinki City Theatre for four performances with his stand-up show Välikysymys (Välikysymys), which delves into Finnish society.
In the popular television satire Noin viikkouutiset (2014-2017), Jukka Lindström told jokes about politics, won two Venla Awards, quit and moved away from Finland. After a year of watching his home country from abroad, Lindström is ready to sink his teeth into new topics. In her stand-up show Välikysymys, she tells jokes about Finnish society and her life abroad for about an hour, and wonders if politicians are funnier than comedians after all.
“Once, before a stand-up show, I heard a viewer ask a friend if they do the same things as in Noin viikko uutiset. Well, I don’t. This is not a stage version of NVU. In stand-up, there is only a microphone and a man, so the form of narration is also different. And maybe that’s why this presentation is more personal and comments on politics on a more general level. And I am talking about more than just politics in this presentation, such as Belgian foxes and farting hippos. After all, Matti Rönkä probably doesn’t just talk about the news all the time in his free time,” Jukka Lindström says.
Screenwriter, journalist, stand-up comedian and TV presenter Jukka Lindström has appeared several times in addition to Noin viikko uutiset, e.g. Uutisvuoto, Pressiklubi and YleLeaks. Before his career in television, Lindström first worked as a news reporter for a long time, after which he edited and hosted the current affairs program Etusivu on the YleX channel. On stage, Lindström’s comedy stems more from personal observations and stories than directly from day-to-day politics. Still, his style is often described as social and opinionated.
Jukka Lindström’s Välikysymys tour starts on 31 October in Tampere and ends on 17 November. To Oulu. All four performances in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area will be seen in November on the Arena stage of the Helsinki City Theatre. The tour is produced by W&T Comedy.
