Lilla Teatern and the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki are collaborating this spring. Works by authors Edith Södergran and Hagar Olsson have inspired director Rasmus Slätis for the performance Raging Standstill , in which students work together with the artistic team to develop a current interpretation of classical poetry. The premiere will be on 10.5.2022 at Lilla Teatern and a total of six performances will be given.
"The collaboration is long-awaited and I am very happy that the Finland-Swedish actors of the future will take over our stage in May," says Lilla Teatern’s artistic director Jakob Höglund.
The performance is a collaboration between Lilla Teatern and the Swedish Degree Programme in Acting at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
Director Rasmus Slätis and the students investigate human longing for freedom with texts and themes from Edith Södergran’s poetry collections Septemberlyran (1918), The Rose Altar (1919) and The Shadow of the Future (1920) as well as the novel På Kanaanexpressen (1929) by Hagar Olsson. The focus is on man and his place in the cosmos. The questions and passions that were aroused during the beginning of modernity have today, a hundred years later, reached a kind of climax – a Furious Truce.
The rehearsals constitute an educational and artistic process that results in a total work of art with elements of dance, music, movement and aesthetics, as well as improvisational elements.
On stage we see master’s students Antonia Atarah, Alexandra Gustafsson, Tobias Klemets, Greta Lignell, Sara Pirhonen, Walter Ruokolahti, Linnea Sundblom as well as Stina Engström (Theatre Academy, Senior Lecturer in Acting, Actor) and Pia Runnakko (Lilla Teatern/ HKT)
Concept and direction are by Rasmus Slätis, choreographic supervisor is Karolina Ginman, Fabian Nyberg is responsible for scenography and visual supervision, composer and musician is Joonas Leppänen.
