“Once är berättelsen vi behöver just nu” – nya speldatum släpps / “Once on tarina jota vajamme nyt” – additional performances for sale
The Irish musical Once will have its Nordic premiere on October 28 at Lilla Teatern. Interest in the musical has been great and the demand for tickets has led the theatre to put in extra performance dates even before the premiere.
The down-to-earth love story between two young street musicians in Dublin has become a 21st century classic, both on film and on stage, with a wide and devoted fan base around the world. Now Lilla Teatern is staging the warmly life-affirming Broadway success, directed and choreographed by artistic director Jakob Höglund , and in newly written Finnish-Swedish language. The script and lyrics are translated by Annina Enckell and Tobias Zilliacus, respectively.
“Once is the story we need right now,” says Jakob Höglund. “For me, Once is about solidarity, humanity and never giving up on your dream. Although the characters in the play are not very well off themselves, they do everything they can to help and support each other forward. I think we all need to be reminded of hopefulness in this time. ”
The main roles are played by Helsinki City Theatre’s musical star Tuukka Leppänen and the distinguished soloist Emma Klingenberg. The other roles are played by Ulriikka Heikinheimo, Aili Järvelä, Santeri Helinheimo Mäntylä, Aleksi Kaufmann, Robert Kock, Molla Rantamäki, Pia Runnakko, Kalle Ruusukallio, Vilja Seivo, Riku Vartiainen, Alexander Wendelin and Joachim Wigelius.
The preview screenings will begin on Monday 26 October and the premiere will be on Wednesday 28 October at 7 pm. Yle Teema will show the film Once on 9 October at noon. 21. It can be seen on Yle Areena 7 days after that.

The Irish musical Once will have its Nordic premiere on 28 October at Lilla Teatern. Due to high demand, the theatre will bring additional performances for sale even before the premiere.
Set in Dublin, the love story of two young street musicians has become a classic of the 2000s, both in film and on stage, with a solid and extensive fan base around the world. At Lilla Teatern, the Broadway hit is directed and choreographed by the theatre’s artistic director Jakob Höglund. The Swedish translation is by Annina Enckell (libretto) and Tobias Zilliacus (lyrics).
“Once is the story we need now,” says Jakob Höglund. “In my opinion, Once is about solidarity, love for one’s neighbor and the fact that you should not give up on your dreams. Even though the characters in the show are not very happy, they do everything they can to help and support each other. I think in these times we all need a reminder that there is hope.”
