The autumn season on the Arena stage continues with the Finnish premiere of the warm-hearted drama comedy The Man Who Loved Order. The play, which has been described as “Sweden’s Devil”, will be interpreted by Taneli Mäkelä, who is familiar from TV series and theatre stages, and he will be directed by Marcus Groth, who has played the same role at the Swedish Theatre.
“The Man Who Loved Order is the story of a man who has lost absolutely everything, but finally opens his heart to love. And as we all know, the greatest of all is love,” says director Marcus Groth.
The only mission in life of the widowed Olav (Taneli Mäkelä) has become to maintain meticulous order in the terraced house company and to make sure that no one behaves in the yard against the rules. However, a family moving in next door and the family’s Iranian-born mother disrupt Olavi’s organized life, and a funny and heartwarming story begins about a shaggy cat, an unexpected friendship, love and the importance of proper tools.
The Man Who Loved Order (En man som heter Ove, 2015) will have its Finnish premiere on 3 October on the Arena stage. The play is based on Fredrik Backman’s book of the same name (2012), and the story is also familiar from the film written and directed by Hannes Holm (2015). Marie Persson Hedenius, Johan Rheborg and Emma Bucht The stage adaptation (2015) has been translated into Finnish by Päivi Storgård.
The set design is by Finnur Arnar, and the costume and lighting design is by Bjarni Thorsson. The sound designer is Frank Hall, and the camouflage is designed by Tuula Kuittinen.
The performances will continue on the Arena stage until 12 December. The performance is a collaboration between the Helsinki City Theatre and the Turku City Theatre, first in Helsinki and in the spring of 2020 in Turku.
The Man Who Loved Order premieres on 3.10.2019 at 7 pm and performances until 12.12.2019 on the Arena stage of the Helsinki City Theatre (Hämeentie 2)
