Helsinki City Theatre today got additional performances of the musical The Little Mermaid for sale for the autumn 2020 season to replace the cancelled performances in the spring. At the same time, changes were made to the autumn performance calendar on the big stage. The premieres of My Day in Marmot and Tatu and Patu in Helsinki were postponed, and the small stage Red Orphans also got a new premiere date.
“The renewed performance calendar for the autumn season is now ready, and the autumn performances of The Little Mermaid are filling up promisingly. This year, we will have our summer holidays in advance, starting rehearsals already in July and performance activities in August. Of course, we are actively following the coronavirus situation and the instructions of the authorities, the safety of the staff and the public is the most important thing for us. We trust that together we will get through this, and we are looking forward to the autumn!”, says Theatre Director Kari Arffman.
The beloved The Little Mermaid returns to the big stage from August 8. The premiere of the musical comedy My Day as a Groundhog, which reminds us of the importance of living in the moment and is familiar from the film version starring Bill Murray, has been postponed by a week, and the new premiere date is 3 September. At the same time, the premiere of the play Red Orphans, directed by Lauri Maijala for the small stage, will be postponed to 2 September. The premiere of the musical play Tatu and Patu in Helsinki for the whole family will be postponed to late autumn, and the new premiere date will be 26 November.
Other premieres at the Helsinki City Theatre in the early autumn include the independent sequel to the popular play about friendship and the retirement home of dreams, Another Bottle of Cava, on 10 September on the Arena stage, and Dinner among Friends, directed by Sari Siikander, which also takes on friendship, on 17 September at Studio Pasila. On 5 September, Lilla Teatern will have its Finnish premiere of Märta Tikkanen’s Män kan inte våldtas ( A Man Can’t Be Raped), and the award-winning Broadway musical Once, directed by new artistic director Jakob Höglund, will have its Nordic premiere on 28 October. The programme for late autumn 2020 will be published at the opening of the year on 11 August 2020.
Due to the changed performance schedules, the theatre will contact customers who have purchased and reserved their tickets and offers the opportunity to exchange tickets, refund money or receive a gift card. More information in the News section of the theatre’s website.
