Tummansininen juliste, jonka yläreunassa on himmeä kasvitieteellinen kuvitus, keskellä neon-tyylinen teksti "Suuri Hiljaisuus" ja alapuolella "Esitys mahdollisesta tulevaisuudesta". Alareunassa näkyy logoja ja veden heijastus.

Helsinki City Theatre’s three-year audience outreach project Jakomäki in the Main Role will culminate in a theatre performance. The Great Silence – A Performance of a Possible Future , a co-production of the City Theatre, the North Helsinki Band School and Malmitalo, will be performed a total of five times from 17 to 23 May at Malmitalo and the Helsinki City Theatre’s studio in Pasila.

The Great Silence – A Show of a Possible Future is an adventure story about a young woman in a future world where both humanity and the environment have changed after a natural disaster. The world as we know it no longer exists. Young Aava is living her joyless everyday life in an ancient concrete city that has been spared from flooding, when one night a mysterious point of light appears on the horizon. That glimpse in the dark leads Aava to an adventure where a spark of hope smoulders in the midst of fear, oppression and prejudice.

The stage will feature the adult theatre group Hilkat ja Hukat, which was born in the area as a result of the project, as well as Studio Jakis, a group of children and young people from Jakomäki.

“We have offered the people of Jakomäki different ways to participate and get to know theatre work. From the very beginning, our activities have been received with joy in Jakomäki. We have prepared different types of performances, but now it is time to culminate our activities in a full-length theatre performance and give these talented members of the Jakomäki theatre group with a big heart the opportunity to perform on a large theatre stage,” says Jenny Jumppanen, Jakomäki’s coordinator and audience worker at the Helsinki City Theatre.

The play, written by Janne Puustinen, is directed by Laura Ikonen, and the music is composed by Timo Oiva. The set and costumes were designed by Jonna Kuittinen. The graphic design is by Ikko Alaska.

In the main role, Jakomäki is one of the City of Helsinki’s Helsinki Model projects. The aim of the project is to balance and diversify the art and cultural offerings of the districts and to encourage art institutions and art professional groups to work outside their walls in different districts in cooperation with the residents and communities of the area.

The Great Silence – A Performance of a Possible Future performances at Malmitalo on 17 May at 7 pm, 18 May at 7 pm, 19 May at 3 pm and at Studio Pasila on 22 May at 7 pm, 23 May at 7 pm.
Tickets 5 €
