The Hitman’s Nightmare is a comedy without a silencer

The season on the Helsinki City Theatre’s Arena stage opens with Mika Eirtovaara’s The Assassin’s Nightmare on 6 September. The farcical comedy by French director Francis Veber tells the story of two men who stay in adjacent hotel rooms, one to kill themselves and the other to murder an important witness who arrives at trial. The role of the hitman is played by Santeri Kinnunen and his nightmare by Iikka Forss.

The work of Ralph, a professional murder professional, played by Santeri Kinnunen, is completely disrupted by the nightmarishly talkative photographer Frank (Iikka Forss), who has been abandoned by his wife and behaves self-destructively, in the next room. Ralph’s job doesn’t really get any easier when Frank’s ex-wife (Sanna Saarijärvi) and her new lover, a passive-aggressive therapist (Jouko Klemettilä) and a confused hotel attendant (Antti Peltola) get involved, and of course a police officer (Sauli Suonpää) who intervenes in the events, who becomes particularly familiar with the hotel room’s wardrobe. In the new production on the Arena stage, comedy is performed without a silencer, and the accuracy of hits is guaranteed when the farce masters of the City Theatre are back at full speed.

The atmospheric Arena stage has been converted into an English hotel by set designer Peter Ahlqvist, and the costume design for the performance is by Elina Kolehmainen. The lighting designer is Kari Leppälä and the sound designer is Mauri Siirala. The camouflage and hairstyles are designed by Jaana Nykänen.

Mika Eirtovaara, who is visiting the Helsinki City Theatre for the first time as a director, is a well-known stand-up comedian, actor, director and screenwriter.
