The winner of the comedy competition is Salla Viikka’s play proposal Lainaystävä

In May 2022, the Helsinki City Theatre approached its author networks and agencies with a comedy competition with the aim of finding new Finnish comedies and farces for the theatre’s repertoire. A total of 69 play proposals were submitted to the competition, written by a diverse range of Finnish professional writers and theatre lovers.

The winner of the competition was Salla Viikka’s play proposal Lainaystävä. The theatre will pay the winner a fee of EUR 3,000 and sign a commission agreement for Viikka’s play.

Salla Viikka (b. 1975) is a Helsinki-based playwright and dramaturg. Her play Aukko won the Lea Award for the best Finnish play in 2015. Viikka’s plays have been translated into English, Swedish, Danish and German.
