The play tells the exhilarating and fierce story
of a young girl who admires parades and uniforms and grows into an independent, adult and writer.
After her father’s death, her father’s friend, the Colonel, who is 28 years older, fills the young poetry girl’s thoughts and throws herself into the man’s arms with all her senses. The couple goes on wilderness trips, to the parties of the Nazi elite in Rovaniemi, to Mannerheim’s birthday parties and to marry in swamps. Love competes with the Northern Lights, but slowly takes on more and more cruel tones.
At the same time, the play is an accurate and sharp analysis of an era. The book also follows the stages of Finland from the early days of independence, through the wars to the present day. We live between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, and we are firmly leaning towards the latter until that alliance falls.
The story, told in the crisp night of Lapland, takes us through the entire life of one woman and the growing pains of one country. The interpreter of the powerful and unforgettable story is the wonderful Heidi Herala.

“The Colonel is a celebration of multifaceted acting. Rosa Liksom’s novel spreads out on the stage of the City Theatre with magical power.” Helsingin Sanomat 3.10.2019 – Lauri Meri

Note! A larger gap on the map is not a passage, but a part of the stage, and you can’t pass through it.
