The full-blooded comedy brings a cavalcade of delicious characters to the stage.
Satire The Impostor’s Notes is a classic of Russian drama, and director Kari Heiskanen’s version of the play is a full-blooded comedy. Glumov, an intelligent young man with no career and no spouse, comes up with the idea of pretending to be much more stupid than he really is in order to get what he wants. She becomes a favorite of the rich and powerful, who gets a job by flattering and scamming the bride she wants. A fatal mistake is the notebook kept by Glumov, in which he writes down his real opinions about the influential people he encounters and the conversations he has had with them. The revelation of the notebook forces the socialite to look at themselves in the mirror, and the reflection in the mirror is not very beautiful. Ostrovsky’s spiky comedy brings a cavalcade of delicious characters to the stage.
