The young Katrina is attracted by the love of moving from Ostrobothnia to Åland to become a sailor’s wife. Despite being left alone in the meager cottage, she manages to overcome both external difficulties and herself time and again. Katrina’s pride and justice pave the way where she challenges society’s norms and what it means to be a woman.
Katrina is en The classic story that was groundbreaking when it was published in 1936 and made the author Sally Salminen a world celebrity, and the book was translated into more than twenty languages. Kaisa Lundán’s dramatization and Aili Järvelä’s newly composed music now give new life to Katrina’s touching story.
Actor Emma Klingenberg plays the title role of Katrina, and together with Ulriikka Heikinheimo, Aili Järvelä and Senni Valtonen, she sings Katrina’s heartbreaking story, the message of which is still relevant today.
