Skymning 41 – berättelsen om Molly och Henry
OBS! Inte längre i repertoaren!
HENRY
I’ve been on a course.
MOLLY
What is the course?
HENRY
A course for journalists. A propaganda course. Molly, there will be war.
The year is 1939 when newly in love Molly and Henry realize that their small nation will end up in war. Henry is not sent to the front, he is too old to be drafted. Yet the war changes everything. Actress Molly goes on tour to Sweden to raise money for Finland’s cause, while Henry travels to the front to write reports about the horrors of the war. Henry’s texts are not published, his superiors think the language is too raw and honest. They lack patriotic stories about the Finnish soldier – a hero who proudly dies for the fatherland. At the same time, Molly has to play trivial roles in light-hearted comedies when she really wants to “stand on stage and portray the human condition in this world”. Molly and Henry try to find their way back to life as it was, but the war is a gaping jaw that devours people’s joy and hope.
The performance is based on Kjell Westö’s novel and it is about a nation at war, about how the rhetoric in society is militarized and about how the war affects the civilian population. It is also a story about love and morality in times of crisis and about fighting for what you believe in.
The performance language is Swedish, but two Finnish-language scenes are included. The performance is subtitled in Finnish and Swedish via the Subtitle Mobile subtitle app. The app can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play. We recommend that you download the app to your own smartphone in advance. During the performance, you will then follow the subtitles on your own screen, which serves as a subtitling device. The subtitle code is 1WBG.
NOTE! In the auditorium, there is no screen from which you can see the subtitles.
