In Status quo , we follow three different stories, each about a young man at the start of his career: one is an estate agent, another a pharmacy intern and the third an actor. All three are called Mikael Malmberg. Mikael is a perfectly ordinary guy.
Wherever he goes, he encounters the same patterns: discrimination, manipulation and sexual advances. At home, Mikael takes care of the household and tries to be a good partner, but in a society ruled by women, every Mikael is nothing more than a Micke.
Maja Zade’s play cleverly depicts how familiar roles and worlds become absurd when gender roles are turned upside down.
The production is Artistic Director Jakob Höglund’s farewell directing work for Lilla Teatern.
