Based on Pirjo Tuominen's best-selling novel of the same name (Tammi, 2024), the warm-hearted Kurtturuusut has been of enormous interest to the audience. The play depicts older women in a way that differs from what we are used to: not through illness or grandmotherhood, but from the perspective of friendship and the passion of life. The comedy, which premieres on HKT's small stage on 4 February, will have additional screenings in the spring and a continuation in the autumn season.

In 2025, the Helsinki City Theatre had a staggering 318,471 spectators (2024: 278,309*). The occupancy rate of the proposals was 84 per cent. The most viewers during the year were once again the hugely successful Moulin Rouge! A musical that was also number one in the 2024 viewing statistics. The spring 2026 programme has also been of interest to theatre audiences.

Sophocles' tragedy Antigone, which premiered 2400 years ago, is once again topical: civil disobedience, the status of women and the challenge to power are discussed by theatre makers all over Europe. Now, as a co-production of HKT and the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, the classic will receive a new, well-composed interpretation, featuring 14 future theatre artists.

The Somatic Sitcom performance on the stage of the Helsinki City Theatre's Contemporary Performance combines the spatial setting and contemporary dance of classic sitcoms from the early 90s.

Helsinki City Theatre's play Stones in Your Pocket will have its 1,000th performance on 17 December. The favourite performance has broken Finnish records both in terms of performances and as the longest-running full-length play in the repertoire. The performance, which premiered 23 years ago and has become a phenomenon, will continue in the programme for only the autumn season of 2026.
