Sophocles' tragedy Antigone, which premiered 2400 years ago, is once again topical: civil disobedience, the status of women and the challenge to power are discussed by theatre makers all over Europe. Now, as a co-production of HKT and the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, the classic will receive a new, well-composed interpretation, featuring 14 future theatre artists.

The Somatic Sitcom performance on the stage of the Helsinki City Theatre's Contemporary Performance combines the spatial setting and contemporary dance of classic sitcoms from the early 90s.

Helsinki City Theatre's play Stones in Your Pocket will have its 1,000th performance on 17 December. The favourite performance has broken Finnish records both in terms of performances and as the longest-running full-length play in the repertoire. The performance, which premiered 23 years ago and has become a phenomenon, will continue in the programme for only the autumn season of 2026.

What happens if Juliet doesn't follow Romeo but chooses life? The musical & Julia, which charmed audiences in London and Broadway, updates Shakespeare's classic to the present day by challenging the idea that a woman's story is dependent on a man. The end result is an attitude-filled pop delight sprawling with hit songs by Britney Spears, Bon Jovi and Katy Perry, among others, which is directed to HKT's big stage by musical wizard Samuel Harjanne. & Julia will premiere on August 20, 2026.

The spring premiere of the Helsinki City Theatre's dance group Helsinki Dance Company will be choreographed by Brazilian Fernando Melo, whose new work Out of Order will premiere on 11 March on the small stage. The work, which combines illusion, choreography and moving sets, continues the collaboration between choreographer Fernando Melo and visual artist and magician Kalle Nio, whose previous work Tempo charmed audiences at the Helsinki Festival in August.

Helsinki City Theatre and the young people of the Shed musical theatre group invite the audience to join the audience on an adventure in which the classic fairy tale Peter Pan gets a modern and surprising look. The roles are played by the young people of Shed and actress Helena Haaranen, who has had a 50-year career in HKT.
