A Nice Journey is the babies’ own theatre performance at the Helsinki City Theatre
Helsinki City Theatre brought its first performance for infants, Nice Trip!first as part of the Culture Sponsors project offered to babies in Helsinki and their immediate adults in the autumn of 2021. From August 2022 onwards, all other infants and their adults will also be able to enjoy the godchildren’s favourite performance.
“Have a nice trip! is the City Theatre’s first ever baby theatre performance, and we have received great feedback on it from the Culture Godchildren audience. It has been amazing to be part of the baby’s first theatre experience, and it is great that we can get screenings for the performance that are open to everyone and thus new little spectators,” says Jenny Jumppanen, the director of the Nice Journey! performance.
The script for the baby theatre performance, which will be performed in the foyer of the small stage, is written by Sanna Niemeläinen and Jenny Jumppanen. The cast includes Leena Rapola and Marjut Toivanen and musician Annika Venäläinen.
Have a nice trip! tells the story of a passenger (Marjut Toivanen) who is leaving Suomenlinna with her teddy bear towards the performance venue. His means of transport are the Suomenlinna ferry rocking like the traditional Helsinki, a rattling tram and a sleepy bus. He is assisted by a conductor (Leena Rapola) who knows the city and its means of transport like the back of her hand – and there are many! The audience gets to join in the journey, and the performance marvels at the magic of theatre and explores the early interaction between a baby and an adult together.
Have a nice trip! is a shared experience for a baby and an adult. This performance is enjoyed from the best place in the world – in the lap of your own adult. Each performance has room for 15 infants with their close adults.
The first 18 performances of the autumn season will take place in the foyer of the small stage from 24 August.
