Another bottle of cava brings the Portuguese sun to the Arena stage

Kuusi hymyilevää aikuista, kolme miestä ja kolme naista, seisoo tiiviisti yhdessä valkoista taustaa vasten. Heillä on värikkäät, rennot vaatteet ja he näyttävät iloisilta ja ystävällisiltä.

This autumn, when travel is restricted, the Portuguese sun will also be available on the Hakaniemi Arena stage from 10 September! The independent sequel to Helena Anttonen’s successful play A Bottle of Cava and the Sun, mainly by the same team of filmmakers, brings to the stage a familiar, delightful quartet of women after two years spent together in the Algarve. The comedy, which tells a warm and funny story about the life, friendship and aging of adults, is directed by Milko Lehto. Heidi Herala, Jaana Saarinen, Aino Seppo and Eija Vilpas, who glow in the lead roles, will be joined by Eero Saarinen and Joel Hirvonen.

Inka (Heidi Herala), Vonne (Jaana Saarinen), Anita (Eija Vilpas) and Tuulia (Aino Seppo), known from the play A Bottle of Cava and the Sun (2018), have fulfilled their dreams, renovated an old ceramics factory and established their own retirement home, a communal and individual artists’ house in an idyllic mountain village, where they can spend the rest of their sisterly and free lives. How are the friends doing after two years of living together? Are the old rules inspired by cava and made in the initial frenzy still enough when the money starts to run out, Tuulia’s ceramics hobby leads to unpredictable relationships and Tuulia’s unemployed, homeless grandson Sami (Joel Hirvonen) and Anita’s online acquaintance Lasse (Eero Saarinen) also move into the house?

“It has been wonderful and exhilarating to return to the people I love, both the actors and the roles that have developed, matured and deepened in two years! It’s time to take new positions again, comical of course, but also tragic. We have laughed a lot, but we have also been moved. So there will be warmth, joy, moments of happiness and deep joy, but also the bitterness of life and renunciation. At its best, friendship is like an exotic trip abroad!”, says director Milko Lehto, who was also responsible for directing the play A Bottle of Cava and Sun.

The visual look of the Second Bottle of Cava performance has been designed by the duo familiar from the first part, set designer Katariina Kirjavainen and costume designer Sanna Levo. The lighting design is by Paavo Kykkänen and the sound design by Jaakko Virmavirta. The camouflage was designed by Hanna Piispanen.

The second bottle of cava is a new, independent work that can be enjoyed even by those who did not sip the first bottle.
