Dancer in the Dark
OBS! Inte längre i repertoaren!
Selma is almost blind and works in a factory to feed herself and her beloved son Gene. She saves for an operation for her son, who suffers from the same serious eye disease as her and gradually makes a blind man. To escape reality and deal with everyday life, Selma dreams away to a fantasy world, filled with hopeful musical numbers.
The musical version of Dancer in the Dark offers completely new music, composed by Marie Højlund. The music takes off from the sounds that Selma hears in her everyday life, because as her eyesight deteriorates, she shapes the world through her hearing.
In Dancer in the Dark, director Jakob Höglund continues to bring new musicals to Lilla Teatern’s stage. This time with a larger ensemble than ever before, and for the first time, dancers from Helsinki Dance Company will also participate. Lumi Aunio plays the title role as Selma.
The performance is a hopeful tragedy, a depiction of a heartbreaking maternal relationship and, above all, a fast-paced musical with a rhythm that never stops. On the factory floor, among the dust and sounds, dreams come to life.
The language of the performance is Swedish.
The musical is based on the film Dancer in the Dark by Lars von Trier, produced by Zentropa Entertainments. Lyrics and lyrics by Patrick Ellsworth, music by Marie Højlund. Soundscape by Morten Riis and Marie Højlund. Right of performance: Nordic Drama Corner.
