Röda rummet
A Tale of Power Dynamics and DesireOBS! Inte längre i repertoaren!
It starts as a joke: a young writer publishes an advertisement in a newspaper in which he promises to write a book in exchange for an affordable home. A lonely gentleman offers an interesting apartment at a nice address and soon the young man notices that he has become involved in a strange game. He begins to write a story that takes him to a labyrinth of desire and power in a nocturnal Helsinki, where dominance and submission are like iron to magnet.
The Red Room is an intense drama about loneliness, power dynamics and desire. It is about fulfilling your own and others’ dreams and how far you are prepared to go.
The performance is part of Milja Sarkola’s trilogy at the Helsinki City Theatre (Bolla 2021, Minä valin sind 2022).
Kaj Korkea-aho’s novel The Red Room was nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Literature Prize and the 2022 Runeberg Prize.
Laura Beck’s translation of The Red Room has been used as an aid in the dramatisation of the performance.
The language of the performance is Swedish, but Finnish is also included. The performance is subtitled in Finnish and Swedish via the Subtitle Mobile mobile application, which you can download from Google Play or the App Store. The subtitle code for the performance is AWX2
