Uusi Eden is a carnivalesque musical comedy set in post-apocalyptic Pasila. In this outrageously funny show, Juho Mantere’s grotesque vision meets the spirit of a Disney musical.

A global nuclear war has swept across the planet, but by a quirk of fate, a theatre in Pasila and its staff have escaped destruction. When the theatre workers’ former professions prove useless in this post-apocalyptic reality, they embark on a project to build a new life under the guidance of their resourceful caretaker.

A community rises from the ruins of the old theatre, and they call it Uusi Eden. Together, they vow never to repeat the mistakes of the past — but it soon becomes clear that even paradise is not perfect.

Former acting student Sonja still dreams of the role she never got, while ex-pizza delivery driver Petteri longs for an unattainable love. Meanwhile, the caretaker who has risen to become Eden’s leader harbours a secret that threatens to tear the entire community apart.

All is fair in theatre and love — but where do you draw the line when your own survival and faith in a better future are at stake?

Uusi Eden combines black humour, topical themes and stirring music in a way you have never experienced before. It is a breathtakingly funny and heartbreakingly beautiful story of hope and love — and of how far we are prepared to go in the fight for a better world.

The musical is written and directed by Juho Mantere, whose previous work “Uuteen nousuun – Laman lasten elämä ja teot” became a theatrical sensation at Q-teatteri. The music is composed by Henri Lyysaari, one of the most promising composers of his generation.

Uusi Eden is a co-production by Helsinki City Theatre and Q-teatteri.
