ABOUT US
Lilla Teatern was founded in 1940 and has been part of Helsinki City Theatre since 2005. We have our own Artistic Director, and our primary performance language is Swedish. Our intimate auditorium with its classic red curtains and our ambitious staff are also the inspiration behind Lillan’s slogan, “the little theatre with a big heart”.
At Lillan, we make theatre for our audiences. Our programme reflects our view of life and culture – emotions, stories and experiences are the most precious things we can give one another. Come laugh and tremble, enjoy yourself and be entertained with us. The best way to begin an evening at the theatre is with a drink and good company in our foyer.
In addition to our own premieres, we present a hand-picked selection of guest performances and other events each year. We also organise audience talks where directors, actors and other experts offer insights into the background, creative processes and themes of our productions.
If you would like to learn more about Lilla Teatern’s 80-year journey, we recommend our history, Här går det under – En berättelse om Lilla Teatern 1940–2015. This entertaining and richly illustrated book was written by award-winning culture journalist Caterina Stenius.
Welcome to the theatre!
