Våldets historia
OBS! Inte längre i repertoaren!
The History of Violence is a gripping story about class differences, violence and the narrow role of men. The play is based on French author Édouard Louis’ acclaimed novels En finir avec Eddy Bellegueule and Histoire de la violence.
The first act depicts Eddy’s upbringing in a small town in northern France, where his life is marked by family poverty and cruel bullying. The second act deals with the sexual violence that the adult author is subjected to and the recovery that follows. Despite the brutal starting points of Louis’ novels, the performance wants to depict the difficult themes in an empathetic and nuanced way. Director Jakob Höglund is known for his choreographic and musical stage language, which he wants to develop further in this work as well. The newly written music is composed by Elia Lombardini.
Édouard Louis wrote his debut novel at the age of 21, and it quickly became an audience and critic favorite in France. His works have been translated into dozens of languages and theatre productions based on them have been performed all over the world.
This is the first time Louis is being staged in Finland.
The History of Violence is part of the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland’s World on Stage project, which supports the translation and staging of international drama for Finnish theatres.
Performed in Swedish. The performance is subtitled in Swedish and Finnish via the Subtitle mobile app. The subtitle code for the performance is 2D6K. Read more about the subtitles here.
