The Board of Directors of the Helsinki Theatre Foundation has appointed David Sandqvist, Master of Arts (Theatre and Drama), as the Artistic Director of Lilla Teatern. The second contract period of the current Artistic Director Jakob Höglund ends on 31 July 2026, when Höglund will move on to other duties.

On 9 October, the true story of Finnish professional soldier Aleksi Lysander (1989–2024) will premiere on the Small Stage. Aleksi Suomesta is an adaptation by Ari-Pekka Lahti of Tuomas Kyrö's book of the same name, which was nominated for the Finlandia Prize for non-fiction (WSOY, 2023). Directed by Tuomas Rinta-Panttila, the film features Roderick Kabanga and Eetu Känkänen.

The Art for Homes events, organised by the Helsinki City Theatre's audience outreach, will continue. As part of the Malmi in the Main Role art project, the home performances carried out in the spring of 2025 were enthusiastically received, and in the autumn of 2025, ordinary homes and home environments in the Malmi area will once again be transformed into stages for art events for four performances. During the autumn, there is an opportunity to experience art in living rooms, yards and even in the sauna.

A brand new musical play for the whole family, Who Captured the Sun, will premiere at Studio Pasila on 25 September. The work, based on Mauri Kunnas's children's book of the same name, has been dramatised and directed by Liila Jokelin, who has also composed the play's energetic music together with multi-instrumentalist Lauri Schreck.

The Helsinki City Theatre will open a theatre restaurant with HKT's history next to the Arena stage on Hämeentie. The facilities in the foyer of the Arena stage have also been renovated to match the atmosphere of the stage hall from the 1920s.

Lilla Teatern's autumn season begins on 11 September with the world premiere of Hyena Days, written and directed by Saara Turunen. The performance is partly based on her novel Hyeenan päivät (Tammi 2024) and it deals with the journey towards parenthood that began with fertility treatments.
