Welcome to the opening of the autumn season 2020 at the Helsinki City Theatre on Tuesday 11.8.2020 at 11.30 – 12.30 on the big stage!
The theatre season starts again in August! Due to the coronavirus situation, we will only target our opening this year to the media and hope that all interviews will be arranged in advance. This allows us to arrange interviews safely and smoothly and ask only those people who are requested to be interviewed.
Program:
11.00 Doors open, Helsinki City Theatre Main Stage, Eläintarhantie 5.
11.30 – 12.00 Theatre Director Kari Arffman presents the premieres of the autumn season on the big stage and we perform an excerpt from the musical My Day as a Groundhog .
12.00-12.30 Opportunity to interview and photograph the artists of the autumn premieres in the foyer of the main stage. Please arrange interviews in advance by 6.8., kaisa.pelkonen@hkt.fi.
Our autumn 2020 premieres are:
My Day as a Groundhog, premiere on the big stage on 3 September, directed by Samuel Harjanne. The main roles are played by Lari Halme and Maria Lund , while the other roles are played by Juha Antikainen, Chris Bewsher, Sari Haapamäki, Henrik Hammarberg, Heljä Heikkinen, Sofia Hilli, Mikko Jokinen, Annamaria Karhulahti, Jyrki Kasper, Selma Kauppinen, Lauri Ketonen, Pertti Koivula, Paavo Kääriäinen, Kai Lähdesmäki, Martti Manninen, Matti Myllyaho, Unto Nuora, Arne Nylander, Emilia Nyman, Sonja Pajunoja, Mikko Paloniemi, Tiina Peltonen, Pihla Pohjolainen, Antti L. J. Pääkkönen, Raili Raitala, Teemu Sytelä, Inka Tiitinen, Antti Timonen, Leenamari Unho, Sami Uotila, Tuomas Uusitalo and Mikko Vihma.
Red Orphans, premiere on 2 September on a small stage. The roles of Anneli Kanto and Lauri Maijala’s new play are played by Antti Autio, Anna Böhm, Riitta Havukainen, Miika Laakso, Kari Mattila, Ella Mettänen, Leena Rapola, Wenla Reimaluoto and Marjut Toivanen.
Men can’t be raped (A Man Can’t Be Raped), premiere 5.9. Lilla Teaternissa. The play, which will have its Finnish premiere, has been dramatised by Lo Kauppi and directed by Sara Giese, based on Märta Tikkanen’s classic novel. The main role is played by Minttu Mustakallio. The other roles are played by Ulriikka Heikinheimo, Robert Kock, Pia Runnakko, Joachim Wigelius and Alexander Wendelin.
Another Bottle of Cava, premiere 10.9. On the Arena stage. The independent sequel to the warm-hearted comedy delights Heidi Herala, Jaana Saarinen, Aino Seppo, Eija Vilpas, Eero Saarinen and Joel Hirvonen. The play, written by Helena Anttonen , is directed by Milko Lehto.
Dinner with friends, premiere 16.9. in Studio Pasila. Donald Marguelis The Pulizer Prize-winning play is directed by Sari Siikander. On stage: Risto Kaskilahti, Pihla Penttinen, Carl-Kristian Rundman and Ursula Salo.
Two-Colour Fugue, premiere on 12 October at Studio Pasila. A co-production of Helsinki Dance Company and Carl Knif Company, choreographed by Carl Knif , with dancers Jonna Aaltonen, Jyrki Kasper, Pekka Louhio, Heidi Naakka, Mikko Paloniemi, Terhi Vaimala and Eero Vesterinen.
Only the best for me, premiere on 27.10 on a small stage. Theauthors of the compact ensemble of the miniature play are Sofi Oksanen, Elina Snicker and Maija Vilkkumaa. The premiere is directed by Aino Kivi and stars Riitta Havukainen, Merja Larivaara, Aurora Manninen, Vappu Nalbantoglu and Kaisa Torkkel.
Once, premiere 28.10. The award-winning Broadway play will be seen at Lilla Teatern for the first time in the Nordic countries. The director and choreography are Jakob Höglund , Artistic Director of Lilla Teatern, and the main roles are played by Tuukka Leppänen and Emma Klingenberg. The ensemble also includes Ulriikka Heikinheimo, Santeri Helinheimo Mäntylä, Aili Järvelä, Aleksi Kaufmann, Robert Kock, Molla Rantamäki, Pia Runnakko, Kalle Ruusukallio, Vilja Seivo, Riku Vartiainen, Joachim Wigelius and Alexander Wendelin
Tatu and Patu in Helsinki, premiere on the big stage 26.11. Antti Timonen and Paavo Kääriäinen play the roles of Tatu and Patu, the favourite characters created by Aino Havukainen and Sami Toivonen. The musical play is directed by Sami Rannila and the composition by Kari Mäkiranta. Also on stage are Sari Haapamäki, Sofia Hilli, Juha Jokela, Paavo Kerosuo, Joonas Luomala, Kai Lähdesmäki, Unto Nuora, Emilia Nyman, Tiina Peltonen, Justus Pienmunne, Sanna Saarijärvi, Inka Tiitinen, Kaisa Torkkel, Leenamari Unho and Mikko Vihma.
Christmas in the Forest, premiere 9.12. in Studio Pasila. The Christmas performance of the ShedHelsinki musical theatre is directed by Heikki Sankari, and more than a hundred children and young people aged 8–21 will be seen on stage.
