Helsinki City Theatre opens ticket sales for the long-awaited musical play Tatu and Patu in Helsinki for the performances in October-November 2021. The exact date of the premiere, which will be postponed to early autumn, will be announced later. The theatre’s performance activities have been cancelled until 31 March, and the return of Humiseva harju to the programme, which was planned for the spring season, has been postponed.
“Tatu’s and Patu’s ticket reservations have already had to be postponed several times over the past year due to coronavirus restrictions. This is a very unfortunate situation, and I would like to thank our audience for their patience. Now we genuinely hope that next autumn we won’t have to do this again and we will try to play it safe. We offer the audience the opportunity to book tickets for the performances in October and November, but we will not finalise the actual premiere planned for the beginning of the autumn season until later,” says Theatre Director Kari Arffman.
“We are impatiently waiting to meet the audience. The performance activities in the spring seem uncertain, but of course I hope that in late spring we will be able to present young theatre makers in Studio Pasila in connection with the Decamerone and the Young Stage festival, and we can also continue performing on our other stages. Pasi Lampela’s comedy novel The Security Man will be completed on the Arena stage during the spring, starring the amazing acting duo Martti Suosalo and Katja Küttner. The rehearsals of Den besynnerliga eventn med hunden om natten, directed by Paavo Westerberg, will also be completed in Lillan during the spring. We will announce the premiere dates of both later. Our staff in different departments are doing a great job preparing the autumn premieres in exceptional circumstances. There will be a diverse and interesting autumn programme, and we will tell you more about it later in the spring,” says Arffman.
According to the guidelines of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Coronavirus Coordination Group, the Helsinki City Theatre will cancel its performances until 31 March. The theatre will also have to postpone the return of The Humming Ridge, directed by Lauri Maijala, to the repertoire. The performance season, which was left unfinished last spring, was supposed to be continued in March-April. The theatre will contact the customers of the cancelled performances and refund the tickets.
Due to the uncertain situation, changes in the performance schedules are possible, and the most up-to-date information can be found on the theatre’s website. The Safe to the Theatre section contains instructions for safe theatre visits.
